Sean Payton Steals a Trophy (Wine) (Wine Spectator)
Wine Spectator: Blog Posts &bull Mar 4, 2010
The New Orleans Saints have pulled off another interception. The reigning NFL Super Bowl champions were known for forcing turnovers last season, most famously picking off Peyton Manning for a touchdown in the fourth quarter of the Super Bowl to clench the victory. Apparently head coach Sean Payton knows how to steal a prize too. Last weekend, Payton and his coaching staff were in Indianapolis for the annual NFL scouting combine. Friday night, they dined at the Wine Spectator Best of Award of Excellence winning St. Elmo Steak House. When Payton found out that Dallas Cowboys owner… Full Story »

Spotted in a San Diego Grocery Store
Brooklynguy's Food and Wine Blog &bull Feb 18, 2010
We needed sunblock and diapers, so we drove to CVS, what I think of as a pharmacy, but I now understand is really a grocery store in San Diego. They sell everything, from lawn chairs to perfume to wine. Something like 35 states allow grocery stores to sell wine, and California is one of them. New York is not one of them, although there is a new proposal that would change… Full Story »

Robin Goldstein and The Wine Trials 2010, part I
The Wine Curmudgeon &bull Feb 16, 2010
Robin Goldstein knows even more about cheap wine than the Wine Curmudgeon, which is saying something. But what else would one expect from the co-author and guiding force of The Wine Trials 2010 (Fearless Media, $14.95), perhaps the best guide to wine that costs less than $15 a bottle? The second edition has just been published, and its another fine effort. I dont know that I agree with each of the 150 wines in the book (Ive tasted all but 25 or so); many simple, fruity wines did better than they… Full Story »

#226 A prostitute with a chastity belt - Tasting wines with a cold.
The Tasting Note &bull Feb 10, 2010
I feel like a prostitute with a chastity belt on. Granted, a prostitute still may be able to do many elements of her chosen profession, whilst wearing such a garment, but ultimately if the lady of the night is unable to have sex, it defeats the purpose of hiring her! And when you are a wine retailer, or a blogger, and you have a cold, it is as… Full Story »
